Weekly Update for September 28th-Oct. 2nd, 2020

Dear Parents and Families,

Happy Friday! Things are going really well in the classroom,  I believe we have finally hit our stride. Next week  I will begin my small group meetings while students are working independently. It will be an another meet link that I will send seperately in the chat bar and my group will consist of a few students whom I will read with and listen to them read. This is so very important, because in 3rd grade students who are not reading on grade level must be retained due to the passing of the Read to Succeed Law. My promise to all of you is to work diligently this school year to get your student to where he or she needs to be. What parents can be doing at home is reading with your child daily, have them read independently but also read aloud to you as well.  Making reading a priority is crucial this year, and so far I am impressed at how committed my class is to reading on our online database Epic. Thank you for your support!  I hope you all have a wonderul weekend and I look forward to another great week at LCEU!

Sincerely

Mrs. Dina Knight

Weekly Update for September 21st-25th, 2020

Dear Parents and Families,

What a wonderful week we had!  The students are growing more confident with the online learning platform and are making awesome progress. I just have to brag on them for a bit, they are all working so very hard at their studies while also still getting to know each other and me as well.  It's hard to believe that next week will be the 4th week of school, the students are gaining such confidence and maturity as we all navigate these unchartered waters.  Looking ahead to next week, we will continue to charge on in multiplication and start a new reading unit on context clues. In social studies we will continue to polish off our map skills and dive into writing just a bit deeper.  We have a full week ahead but I know without a doubt, we will make it the best one yet!  Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Dina Knight

Dear Parents and Families,

Happy Friday!  I think we all deserve a pat on the back, we survived a full week of testing!  I want to thank you all so much for your support and assitance with our testing process this week. I truly could not have done it without you. Next week we will be back to our normal schedule and the amount and pace of the curriculum will need to pick up considerably. Please know I will be patient, and hold your students hand the entire way. We are truly in this together, and I am just as concerned with your student's frustration level as I am with their succes with 3rd grade curriculum. We will find the balance that is right for our classroom! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to having another great week at LCEU!

Sincerely

Mrs. Dina Knight

Dear Parents and Families,

We all survived the first week of virtual school!  I am so incredibly proud of how the students overcame the obstacles of technology glitches and still had an awesome week!  I want to thank all the parents and families for their tremendous support this week. I could not have done it without you!

Looking ahead to next week, Monday is a school holiday in observance of the Labor Day Holiday. Tuesday through Friday will be utilized for administering the MAP  assessment (Measure of Academic Progress) until noon and then the afternoons will be used for resuming normal instruction at 12:45.  Students with last names beginning with A-N will test Reading on Tuesday, and Math onWednesday. Students whose names begin with N-Z will test Reading on Thursday, and Math on Friday.

Students whose last names are not being tested that day will be given a  Google Classroom activity each day to work on and on the days students are testing, they will have no activities.  Also, all 4 days next week all students will meet me virtually on our Google Meet at 12:45.

In the afternoons next week, there will be no related arts so we will have brief lessons in reading, math and science.  We will be on from 12:45 until 2:30.  I sent a previous email concerning the math workbooks, please let me know if your child does not have the green math workbook.  I am beginning math on Tuesday and your student will need their workbook.

I hope you all have a wonderful, long weekend and I am looking forward to another great week at LCEU!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Dina Knight
