Dear Parents and Families,
It has been a pleasure meeting with you all this week at conferences to discuss how we can all work together to make certain your student your student has the resources to be successful in 3rd grade. Please know I am ready and willing to assist anyway that I can. I wanted to share with you all another resource that students can utilize at home to grow their learning, the website is called Freckle.com. It has both Reading and Math curriculum and we also will be using it in the classroom when students have finished their work and have some free time. My class code is tnkgqy. After you enter the class code, your student will need to enter their first and last name. I will have additional resources to share in a bit for Reading. As always, thank you so much for helping out at home. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Sincerely
Mrs. Dina Knight

Weekly Update for September 23rd-27th, 2019
Dear Parents and Families,
We had a great week in room C115! The highlight of our week was our guest reader Mrs. Lindsay Agostini, a member of the Richland2 School Board. Mrs. Agostini came to read the mentor text Each Kindness written by Jacqueline Woodson. Richland2 has appointed September as Kindness month and Mrs. Agostini read to our class and discussed the importance of being kind to one another and our class brainstormed ways that could be done here at school. It was truly a powerful discussion. Looking ahead to next week, I will begin parent conferences. There are still spaces available and I look forward to meeting with you all to discuss your student’s progress and ways to support them at home. Please remember that Friday, the 27th is a half day dismissal and students will be released at 11:30. I hope you all enjoy the weekend and I look forward to another great week here at LCEU!
Sincerely

Dear Parents and Families,
Happy Friday! I hope you all had a wonderful week. The students and I worked diligently to get back on track after the unexpected absence last week. We finished up our geography unit in social studies and began our unit on the 6 land regions of South Carolina. We ended our unit in science on the grassland habit and have began working on the desert habitat-both hot and cold. In reading and ELA we finished up our fictional story First Day Jitters and our grammar focus on prefixes. In math we are still focusing on multiplication and division. I wanted to thank you all so much for all your help at home. Studying at home nightly is such an important skill in 3rd grade and I am so grateful for your support. I look forward to seeing you all at Orientation on Tuesday, September 17th. Have a great weekend!

Weekly Update Sept. 9th-13th, 2019
Dear Parents and Families,
Well our short week got a bit shorter due to the arrival of Hurricane Dorian. School was cancelled on Thursday, thus also cancelling our 3rd grade orientation. We have rescheduled orientation for Tuesday, September 17th with 2 sessions each starting at 5:30 and 6:30. I look forward to seeing each of you so that I can help acclimate you to our 3rd grade curriculum. Looking ahead to next week, LCEU will administer the MAP assessment which is a measure of academic progress in both reading and math. The reading portion will be given on Monday, September 9th and the math portion will be given on Tuesday, September 10th. These assessments will be administered again in the Spring and are merely used to measure growth in your student. I will share the data from the Fall assessment in our Fall conferences. Look for a sign up for conferences to go out in the coming weeks. I am so very proud of the progress the students are making. Our first grades went home today in the communication folder. Please sign and return both the papers and folder on Monday. Thank you in advance for assisting your student with studying nightly to ensure success.
