Weekly Update for December 9th-13th, 2019
Dear Parents and Families,
Happy Friday! Our week ended in a sweet celebration as we said farewell to our college intern, Ms. Allie McConnell. The kids and I will miss her terribly and we all were blessed by her bright smile and warm heart. She is going to make a wonderful teacher. Looking ahead to next week, Tuesday, December 10th is our field study at the school on mining and gemstones. This will be our next unit topic in science and what better way to kick it off than some gem mining! If any parents are interested in helping here on campus, please let me know. We need volunteers from 11:30 until 1:30. If your student would like to bring in a small amount of money, there will be a small gift shop to buy items. On another note, our school kicked off our first service learning project. We are collecting items for the organization Sister Care. Items in need for that organization are school supplies, board games, wash cloths, bath towels and paper towels. If you would like to donate, just send in the items and I will get them to the appropriate place. Have a great weekend and I look forward to another great week with your student.

Dear Parents and Families,
Happy Friday! I want to start by bragging on my students who are members of our Chorus, they did a phenomenal job on their performance of A Kids Life! I am so blessed to be the teacher to an amazingly talented group of students. I cannot wait to see more future performances!
On another note, this rain has been persistent and caused our class to have indoor recess four straight days, so I apologize if they come home a little wired. Have a great weekend and I look forward to another great week at LCEU!

Dear Parents and Families,
It's Thursday, a day earlier than I normally post for our blog but school is out on Friday. I will be in professional development but I hope you all enjoy the extra day you get with your student. The students and I are so excited because this upcoming Monday, October 21st is our 1st field trip. We are headed to Camp Discovery right up the road in Blythewood, SC. We will be loading the bus at 9:15 to arrive at 9:30 and will be returning around 1:00. We will be having lunch at the field trip. If you are planning on packing a lunch for your student, please pack the lunch in a disposable grocery bag with your child's name labeled on the outside of the bag. I will be taking a cooler, so any items that need to be cooled will be in the cooler. I will be taking a snack and water for the students as well. Please send your student in tennis shoes and with a jacket, the field study includes exploring animals and plants in their natural habitat so students will need comfortable shoes and something to keep warm. IF you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!

Dear Parents and Families,
Happy Friday! The communication folders are coming home today and they are full. Grades from all the assignments this week are coming home along with the parent conference form that had the fall MAP data. I conferenced with students individually this week and we set goals and selected strategies to use at home and school to reach those goals. Their goal sheets are in their binder, ask them to show you! Also coming home is a MAP graph of your students progress from Spring of last year to Fall of this year. And last but not least, I sent home a sheet that looks like the above image. These are online resources that we use in the classroom that can be used at home as well. I filled in your students usernames and passwords to help! Have a great weekend and I look forward to another great week at LCEU!

Weekly Update for September 23rd-27th, 2019
Dear Parents and Families,
We had a great week in room C115! The highlight of our week was our guest reader Mrs. Lindsay Agostini, a member of the Richland2 School Board. Mrs. Agostini came to read the mentor text Each Kindness written by Jacqueline Woodson. Richland2 has appointed September as Kindness month and Mrs. Agostini read to our class and discussed the importance of being kind to one another and our class brainstormed ways that could be done here at school. It was truly a powerful discussion. Looking ahead to next week, I will begin parent conferences. There are still spaces available and I look forward to meeting with you all to discuss your student’s progress and ways to support them at home. Please remember that Friday, the 27th is a half day dismissal and students will be released at 11:30. I hope you all enjoy the weekend and I look forward to another great week here at LCEU!

Dear Parents and Families,
Happy Friday! I hope you all had a wonderful week. The students and I worked diligently to get back on track after the unexpected absence last week. We finished up our geography unit in social studies and began our unit on the 6 land regions of South Carolina. We ended our unit in science on the grassland habit and have began working on the desert habitat-both hot and cold. In reading and ELA we finished up our fictional story First Day Jitters and our grammar focus on prefixes. In math we are still focusing on multiplication and division. I wanted to thank you all so much for all your help at home. Studying at home nightly is such an important skill in 3rd grade and I am so grateful for your support. I look forward to seeing you all at Orientation on Tuesday, September 17th. Have a great weekend!

Weekly Update Sept. 9th-13th, 2019
Dear Parents and Families,
Well our short week got a bit shorter due to the arrival of Hurricane Dorian. School was cancelled on Thursday, thus also cancelling our 3rd grade orientation. We have rescheduled orientation for Tuesday, September 17th with 2 sessions each starting at 5:30 and 6:30. I look forward to seeing each of you so that I can help acclimate you to our 3rd grade curriculum. Looking ahead to next week, LCEU will administer the MAP assessment which is a measure of academic progress in both reading and math. The reading portion will be given on Monday, September 9th and the math portion will be given on Tuesday, September 10th. These assessments will be administered again in the Spring and are merely used to measure growth in your student. I will share the data from the Fall assessment in our Fall conferences. Look for a sign up for conferences to go out in the coming weeks. I am so very proud of the progress the students are making. Our first grades went home today in the communication folder. Please sign and return both the papers and folder on Monday. Thank you in advance for assisting your student with studying nightly to ensure success.

Weekly Update for Sept. 2nd-6th, 2019
Dear Parents and Families,
Happy Friday! I hope you all had a wonderful week and have enjoyed the cooler temperatures on this beautiful Friday. This week the students and I jumped right into curriculum and I understand this can be a bit overwhelming for them and yourselves. Please know I have strategies and procedures in place to help support them be organized and successful. One strategy that we have focused on this week is using the Agenda books in our binders to organizer homework assignments and upcoming quizzes and tests. Your student had already recorded their math quiz on Tuesday and geography quiz on Thursday in attempts to give plenty of time for studying. For the math quiz, students can prepare by looking over past homework and classwork that is in their binder. To prepare for their geography quiz, students may look over notes and maps that are located in their binder and social studies interactive notebooks. Thanks in advance for working with me to help your student be as successful as possible. Have a great long weekend and I look forward to seeing your students on Tuesday.
