Weekly Update for June 1st-June 5th, 2015

Our guest bloggers for the week are Madison and Reagan!

Hi I'm Reagan and this is Madison B.  In ELA we read Wilbur's Boast.  In the story Wilbur was boasting on how he could spin a web better than Charlotte.  In Social Studies we learned about World War I and how it was a war with Germany and we learned about the Great Depression. During the Great Depression people lost their homes, and they lost their food and they started to go to soup kitchens and they had to sell their expensive jewelry.  We also learned about the New Deal and the New Deal President Roosevelt. In science we learned about sound and sound comes from vibrations and we learned you can hear sound best through a solid.  We know this because we did an experiment by putting our ear on the top of the table and tapped a block of wood with a hammer. Also in science we did a special special and the special let us see that you can see all three states of matter in a root beer float.  We also learned that Styrofoam is what keeps the ice cream cold in the cooler. Then we got to have ice cream.  This week was so much fun!

Science Special with Baskin Robbins

Mrs. Rowell refreshing our memories on insulators and conductors and their importance when dealing with ice cream!

Congratulations Porter!

Congratulations to Porter for earning her Reading Counts T-shirt!

Thank You!!

I want to thank-you all and my precious students for making me feel so special on my birthday.  My morning started with a student telling me she had lost her book bag.  As I go out to help her we realize it had been placed UNDER the cubbies.  As we head back inside I notice the lights are out and I cannot see any students in the room.  As panic slowly starts to creep in I come into the room and the students jump out from under their desks with a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  I then was showered with flowers, posters, cards, gifts and cupcakes.  All I can say is what a morning!  One I certainly will not forget.  I just want to say thank you again.  You all really are the best!

In math we did adding and subtracting money , we also had Red Robin menus,we were adding and subtracting money with them. Yummm

In social studies we learned about textile mills and how they were dusty, and you had to work very hard in mill villages.

In science we learned sound with boomwhackers and pattern of pitch and the short boomwhackers make high sounds  and big boom whackers make low sounds.

I’m Madison Freeman and this is Harrison Collins and that's our weekly update for this week. Hope you enjoyed it, have a nice week!

Weekly Update for May 18th-22nd, 2015

Guest Bloggers Madilyn and Porter

Reagan  is conducting an experiment with sound.

Taylor is conducting an experiment with sound.

Hi I'`m Porter and this is my friend Madilyn and we are going to tell you about our week.
First, in E.L.A. we finished  the Lemonade War and we did lots of fun activities. Let me tell you a little bit about the book... There is a brother named Evan and a sister named Jessie. Evan says he hates Jessie and that my friend is how the lemonade war began.
Then in science we did sound and our favorite activity was when we saw if sound went through a solid, liquid and gas, and it did. The one that you could hear the most was through a solid.
Then in social studies we are doing new inventions and for us without the use of an automobile we would not be able to drive anywhere and if we did not have electricity or a telephone we would not be able to call or text my friends and family.
Next, in math we are doing money and giving change.
Last, this is how our week has been and I hope your week is good too.

Thank You to our Volunteers

LCE and the PTO are making a special effort this month to thank our 300-plus volunteers who have logged more than 3,000 total hours of work at our school this year. You'll see notes in The CommuniGator over the next few weeks listing our volunteers, the types of work they've done, and what it means to our school. Look for details about a very special "Thank you" we'll be offering to each volunteer on Friday, May 22. Thank you parents, grandparents and neighbors for all you do to help make LCE a great place to learn.
